Stroke is a life changing event. Survivors, caregivers and family members
struggle with the changes stroke brings.
Me
By Lynn Williams
Strong, independent, carefree
With much to do and people to see
Never, ever wanting to stop
And, love spinning like a top.
In an instant what could it be
What has happened to me?
I am too young for this mistake,
Please, dear God, stroke, do not make.
Still, quiet, anger and weak
Answers even now I seek.
The good ole' Lynn will no longer be,
But the future is for me to see.
Laughing, smiling, and walking,
What a miracle, eating and talking.
Different but better for me.
New, stronger, and with faith, I decree.
I Had a Stroke
By Linda Nudel
Life changes,
For the better, sometimes
Challenges, sometimes
Strengthening, sometimes
Character building, always
Facing tomorrow with courage,
One step at a time,
Sometimes you fall,
But, always with grace
I'm still me,
Look and see,
A new version,
But, always a class act
Therapists help me move,
Help me talk,
Help me think,
Validate my feelings,
My job--The coping skills
Grandbabies get inside your heart,
Filling you with a love you didn't know possible,
A complete family circle
My Husband Had a Stroke
BY Stacey Bartz
Once upon a time there wasn’t a cane by the bed.
There wasn’t a leg brace lying on the floor.
Once upon a time there weren’t prescriptions on the counter.
And doctors visits every month
Once upon a time there was no shower chair or grab bars.
Once upon a time we moved about unencumbered.
We lived in a wonderful fairy tale world and did not know it.
