HELPING HAND

By Rev. Father Chris Hanes

April 2002

This compact little device – about 4-3/4” high, and 5” across by 6” deep - packs a lot of power, enough to hold a can or other container securely in place on its top surface through a very strong vacuum seal. Or open the hinged gate up and to the side and the powerful suction is now alongside the device, allowing you to hold a bulky box or other large container in place. For stroke victims such as myself who have for the most part lost the use of one of their arms and hands, the Helping Hand is an invaluable substitute that holds things securely in place while the functional arm and hand operate on it.

I’ve found the Helping Hand especially helpful for opening things like canned cat food with the pull tops. Once the motor is turned on, the can is held so that my good hand can pull the tab and then the lid. This sure beats my old method of trying to hold the can between my feet while pulling with my one good hand, praying that nothing would slip so I wouldn’t end up with cat food all over the place. The range of applications really only depends on your imagination. The Helping Hand comes with its own DC power converter.
