Rehabilitation and Technology Seminar 2003

 

Join Innovative Speech Therapy at this unique and stimulating one-day seminar to explore ways to move forward into the world of technology to help yourself, your clients or loved ones benefit from the recent explosion of new techniques available to help people maximize their potential. Three tracks of simultaneous presentations will be offered by experts who use technology to provide a variety of solutions for people with disabilities and learning differences. Exhibits for hands on trial of new products will also be present so that you can try products and discuss their appropriateness for your situation. This seminar will be enlightening whether you are a speech pathologist, occupational therapist, special educator, doctor, nurse, administrator, case manager, caregiver or person with a disability. A delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Please note that speakers and topics are planned as described here but may change due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope to have three simultaneous presentation tracks. Presentations will be 45 minutes long.

 

Jill Arends, Speech Pathologist with Innovative Speech Therapy, will discuss and show how computers and software can help evaluate and treat People with voice and speech impairments.

 

Susan Baer, Computer Specialist and Founder of Advanced Computer Learning and Consulting, will discuss computer maintenance, virus protection and security, and networking

 

David Brennan, Research Engineer with National Rehabilitation Hospital, will discuss telerehabilitation for delivering rehab services at a distance.

 

Linda Carman, Laetare Solutions and representative for Dynavox Systems, will demonstrate innovative solutions for augmentative communicators.

 

Chip Clarke, Founder of Assistive Technology Works, will speak about environmental controls and voice recognition technology.

 

Susan Cohen, Director of Professional Development with Maryland Assistive Technology Cooperative, will  speak about the use of Boardmaker, Speaking Dynamically Pro, and inexpensive  voice output devices.

 

Claudia Cozens-Hoffman, Speech Pathologist with Innovative Speech Therapy, will discuss and demonstrate how computers and technology can help people with moderate and severe language and cognitive deficits. Helpful software will be shown.

 

Moe Dweck, Data-trieve, Inc, will discuss rehabilitation management software and how to use technology and software to improve the organization of rehabilitative services. He will review solutions for data collection and information management for a variety of settings.

 

Brian Friedlander, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist from New Jersey who completed his graduate training in psychology with specialization in school psychology, will speak about the use of Assistive Technology in the classroom.

 

Joan Green, Speech Pathologist and founder of Innovative Speech Therapy, will speak about integrating the use of computers and technology into rehabilitation to help people with a wide range of communication and cognitive issues to improve quality of life. Helpful local, regional, national and online resources will be discussed and a variety of software and other devices will be shown.

 

Janet Gritz, Speech Pathologist and founder of Communication Matters, will demonstrate useful software to help individuals with reading, learning and communication difficulties.

 

Nancy L. Inman, Speech Pathologist and  Program Manager for Kennedy Krieger's Department of Assistive Technology in Baltimore and Author of "Word Power," will speak about computer access made easy for the Dynavox 3100 and Pathfinder.

 

Leslie Kefauver, a Speech Pathologist in Private Practice, will demonstrate a variety of computer software which can help students with learning disabilities.

 

Janet S. Lehr, Speech Pathologist working as a Regional Consultant for the Prentke Romich Company, will speak about voice output communication options for people who have lost the ability to speak

 

Lee Ohringer, MS in computer science and who is affiliated with Iona Senior Services and JCA SeniorNet, will discuss accessibility options built into Microsoft's Windows.

 

Pat Ourand, Speech Pathologist and President of Associated Speech & Language Services, Inc., will speak about the fundamentals of AAC, an approach to AAC Assessment, treatment and documentation.

 

Vince Steis, Principal with Envision Technology, will discuss voice recognition technology and inclusive technology for students in the classroom

 

Louis Tenenbaum, Independent Living Strategist, will speak about how people with disabilities can evaluate their living space and use technology to improve their surroundings.

 

Brian Walker, Speech Pathologist with Innovative Speech Therapy, will speak about the use of computers and technology in speech therapy to help people with high level cognitive and language deficits. A variety of helpful software will be demonstrated.

 

Arthur Williams, President of AWW Associates, LLC, a health care management and information technology (IT) consulting firm and consultant to ASHA on a variety of HIPAA and claims reimbursement topics, will speak about compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
