Potluck

I've selected three topics that come up from time to time on the Stroke Network Message Board. Some get lost in the archives and new members don't get a chance to view the opinions. I've posted on all of these so I'll try to change the wording to protect the innocent.

Handicap Parking: if you don't have a sticker, get one. It's the biggest perk of having a stroke. All you do is ask the doctor, go to the license bureau and, bingo, you have one. Now if you live near me, please don't apply. This whole town is handicapped. And if you find an empty space, rest assured some inconsiderate idiot left his empty shopping cart there. Nice wide spaces and no door dings. Had I known this, I would have started limping years ago.

Living in Fear: while this topic still appears, it's worth some discussion. All those who never thought they would get a stroke, raise your hand. Higher! I can't see. Not the affected arm, the good one! One gal wrote in the other night that she lived in fear everyday of getting another stroke. I advised her to go ahead and have another one. That way she could get on with her life and stop worrying. She jogged, ate the right foods and lived a quiet life. Just the opposite of me.

So the first stroke has come and gone. Now we take our medicine, try to eat right, and do our therapy exercises. What do we do the other 22 hours? Well we do sleep, tend to personal needs and show up on The Stroke Network site. It leaves plenty of time for worry or for living. Fear is a road to nowhere. I sometime get up in the morning with a headache or new pain I didn't have before. I could stay in bed and wonder if the time has come or I can get up and set out to enjoy that precious commodity.........life. I prefer the latter. People, if it's going to happen, it will happen. Just don't put your life on hold. It's probably years away from happening again anyhow. Life didn't come with a warranty. We were all born "as is and shown". It's just some of us had a little flaw in the brain department. Don't dwell on it.

Sex: enough said for now.
